WHAT IS OUR AIMS?
"to promote the study and general advancement of disabled people continuing education"
WHO WE ARE?
The Red Diamonds Club was founded in 1976 to help disabled people of all ages to take part in Sporting activities & socialise, by providing opportunities, encouragement and resources. The Club is affiliated to Disability Sport England (DSE) which is the hub of a network of sports clubs for disabled people throughout England. The Club name comes from the International Maritime Code signal flag "FOXTROT" which is a Red Diamond on a White background meaning.
WHAT WE BELIEVE?
Through Red Diamonds Club learning, we can create and maintain a more skilled and knowledgeable workforce whilst building learning communities in which disabled people can explore shared enthusiasms and work together as a natural active citizens. There is now solid evidence that learning is good for our health, our self-esteem and your employability. There is plenty of passion for learning once it is unlocked – and one person's confidence spills over onto others. Disabled People are excluded from learning because of unfair structures and policies and we recognise the need to fight for equality of opportunity for all disabled people.
HOW WE WORK?
Red Diamonds seeks to influence the decision-makers who are responsible for the policies which affect adult learning. We operate across all sectors of post-compulsory education and training, and we work with other agencies as much as we can to secure the interests of all disabled learners. Red Diamonds aims to achieve its overall objectives by:
- influencing, monitoring and contributing to policy and practice;
- promoting learning and strengthening the voice
- acting in all sectors of disabled education; and
- working regionally, nationally and internationally.
Red Diamonds is a respected campaigning and advocacy organisation. We have strong links to disabled education organisations in Europe and internationally, such as the European Association for the Education of Disabled and the International Council for Disabled Education
